Southern Maine Beach Hotels
Maine has more coastline than the whole state of California, but only about 70 miles of that coast is beaches! Southern Maine has the majority of the beaches in the state tucked into about a 30 mile stretch from Ogunquit to Old Orchard Beach. Lafayette Hotels has 9 different properties in this region with locations in Ogunquit, Wells, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, and Old Orchard Beach. If you’re traveling with your family, Lafayette’s Oceanfront Resort at Wells Beach has been named by Yankee Magazine as the “Best Resort in Maine for Kids”. The quiet beach only has two commercial properties on the 2 mile stretch, with one of them being Lafayette’s Oceanfront Resort. Short walk from the beach is the Boardwalk Arcade which has 2 floors of games and family fun. Wells Beach is a tidal beach so 2 times a day (for about an hour) majority of the beach is completely covered by the ocean so when the tide goes out the sand is hard packed and fantastic for walking or playing beach games. Wells Beach is the perfect beach if you’re looking for peace and tranquility.
Old Orchard Beach is Maine’s longest and one of its’ most popular beaches with 7 miles of soft white sand and rolling surf. Hotels, restaurants and shops line the beach and the downtown is dominated by the Pier and Palace Playland Amusement Park, which is an excellent stop for kids or adventure seekers. Old Orchard Beach also has plenty of nightlife from live music next to the beach and bars on the Pier. Named one of “10 Must-See, No-Cost Destinations” from USAToday, “40 Great Travel Bargains” by Reader’s Digest, and one of the best “Family Beaches” on Fodors.com. If you’re looking for a fun time you will definitely find it in Old Orchard Beach!

Ogunquit’s Marginal Way is a 1.25 mile stretch that leads from near Ogunquit Beach to Perkins Cove passing rocky coast and small pocket beaches and is known as one of the prettiest walks in Maine. If you’re interested in arts, Ogunquit Museum of American Art is considered one of the best small art museums in the United States and the Ogunquit Playhouse puts on Broadway quality musicals often getting former Broadway performers or famous actors/singers to perform such as Sally Struthers and Clay Aiken. Whether you’re looking to soak in sun or culture, Ogunquit is the place to visit!
Kennebunk and Kennebunkport is a presidential place to visit, as having been the summer vacation retreat for George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush families for dozens of years. These towns have great beaches, art, food, and shopping. The Seashore Trolley Museum is the world’s oldest and largest museum of mass transit vehicles.
